Gallery

Looking for a great Web-based photo gallery app? We may be using this for our intranet as well...

Check out Gallery (written in PHP and works with Apache). It's FREE and extremely well done (just like Ikonboard)! I am totally amazed at the quality of these free Web-based apps — many are better than the commercial software! NOTE: This is installed on a Linux-based Web server (Windows running Apache and PHP might work too).

  • User management with multiple permission settings (i.e. some users can modify it, some users can add to it, etc)
  • Very intuitive user-interface
  • Supports pictures and video (jpg, gif, png, avi, mpg, wmv, mov)
  • Visitors and/or defined users can leave comments
  • Multiple albums and album owners who can set permissions
  • Nested albums
  • Very good uploading options (very reliable and 4 ways to do so)
  • Add captions
  • Edit the thumbnail. Gallery comes with a small Java applet that lets you select a part of the image as the source for your thumbnail.
  • Rotate your photo (in 90 degree increments)
  • Highlight a photo (pick a photo to represent the album in the main Gallery)
  • Reorder the photos in the album
  • Hide photos (so that they're only visible to the owner)
  • Delete photos
  • Sort your album[2] based popularity, title, number of comments, and photo capture date
  • Edit multiple captions at once[4]
  • Picture properties reveal EXIF data
  • Fast search function

Check out the Screen Shots link on the left.

If any of you need help installing and configuring it, just drop me a private email.

I'm using Gallery to share our photos and videos... Click that Photo Gallery link on the right or go here:
